Two Recent Articles on the Israel-Hamas War
These last 19 days have probably been the most difficult in my life. I’ve been working almost nonstop while keeping up with the macabre stories, images, and figures from southern Israel and Gaza. In that time, I have managed to publish two articles on these events.
For the London Review of Books blog, I wrote about my personal response to the Hamas terror attack of October 7 and the subsequent, ongoing war in Gaza.
For Dissent, I wrote with my friend Y.L. Al-Sheikh on why American progressives should urge the Biden administration to begin pursuing a ceasefire. I am well aware this is not a “realistic” prospect in the immediate term, and certainly don’t need any reminders of that in my inbox today. I would only encourage those smugly dismissing calls for a ceasefire to seriously examine how realistic the current Israeli objective of removing Hamas from power through a military operation is.
I hope you will find these articles informative and interesting, even if you do not (fully) agree with them. In the best of times I am a pretty poor self-promoter, and today I am trying not to attract too much attention to my personal accounts on social media. So if you do think these articles are worth sharing with your friends and network, please do so. It would mean a lot to me.
